Advocaat legt uit waarom Britse presentator excuses moest aanbieden na 'valse beschuldigingen' over Jay-Z

Alex Spiro, de advocaat van Jay-Z en Beyoncé, heeft in gesprek met TMZ zijn verhaal gedaan nadat Britse presentator Piers Morgan excuses aanbood in zijn programma. Dit deed hij na een interview met Jaguar Wright, waarin zij Jay-Z en Beyoncé beschuldigt van betrokkenheid bij de misdaden waar Diddy van wordt beschuldigd. Ze claimt zelfs dat ze meer slachtoffers hebben gemaakt dan Diddy.

De presentator zou gewaarschuwd zijn door de advocaten van Jay-Z en Beyoncé en Spiro legt vandaag uit hoe het zit. "There's rumors and then there's nonsense and this is one step further," zegt hij over de beschuldigingen. "This is a pointed and formal accusation of something. I felt it needed to be responded to. I think somebody reported it was a cease-and-desist. It wasn't that. It was quite bluntly an ultimatum, which is to remove that false accusation that's demonstrably false or a court's gonna order you to. So, I think he made the wise choice and acted accordingly."

In zijn uitzending van gisteren bood Morgan zijn excuses aan Jay-Z en Beyoncé, maar niet voordat hij had gezegd dat hij niet verwacht had dat Wright deze beschuldigingen zou doen en dat ze ook een publiek zou hebben zonder zijn show. "As I said in the moment, they were not present to respond or defend themselves, but now they have. Their lawyers contacted us to say that those claims were ‘totally false’ and have no basis in fact, and we’ve therefore complied with a legal request to cut them from the original interview," aldus Morgan.

Hij vertelde dat hij de beschuldigingen van Wright uit het interview zou halen en erkende dat hij niet lichtzinnig denkt over het editen van interviews, maar dat hij zich wel aan de wet moet houden. "Editing interviews is not something we do lightly at a show called Uncensored but like the proverbial cries of fire in a crowded theater, there are legal limits on us, too."
