In oktober haalde de Ier al uit naar Khabib toen Islam Makhachev de lichtgewicht titel won tijdens UFC 280. Makhachev liet toen na zijn winst weten dat het allemaal het plan was van Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, de vader van Khabib. McGregor reageerde toen, "I have the system to hurt this style of fighting, guys, I'm telling you. Bro is a s**t jocks. Fat mouth, shut your mouth. You done nothing tonight except go against father's wishes and run."
Hij voegde daar toen aan toe, "It's not father's plan completed yet, pal. You know. Your people know and they talk about you."
Sindsdien had McGregor. geen woorden meer vuil gemaakt aan Khabib, tot Khabib onlangs een quote van McGregor gebruikte. "I hear long time ago when one guy was talking about, 'We're here to take over.' But we here to take over."
