Ja Rule beweert dat 50 Cent zijn carrière heeft gekopieerd: "I was his blueprint"

Hiphoppionier Melle Mel heeft onlangs in een interview laten weten dat hij ervan overtuigd is dat Ja Rule zijn hele stijl gekopieerd heeft van 50 Cent. In hetzelfde interview legde Melle Mel ook uit dat ‘New York’ van Ja Rule niet zoveel succes had als die van Jay-Z en Alicia Keys, Empire State of Mind.
TMZ kwam Ja Rule op het vliegveld tegen en dus vroegen ze hem naar zijn mening. “Mel’s earned the right to say whatever he wants but me copying 50 is like the funniest shit ever because 50 copied me,” legt Ja Rule uit. “I was his blueprint. But other than that, my ‘New York’ record was huge — humongous — one of the biggest New York records to date.”
“Empire State of Mind is a huge record as well, but they’re different. Mine is a street anthem and ‘Empire State of Mind’ is like a big commercial kind of record with Alicia Keys and JAY-Z. Mine is me, Fat Joe, Jadakiss — it’s gutter.”

Voor Ja Rule het vlugge interview afkapte wilde hij nog wel even een eerbetoon aan KRS-One doen. “Big shout-out to KRS-One, that’s his lyric, ‘100 gun, 100 clips.’ Everybody know that — I don’t know how Mel fucked that timeline up,” waarmee hij doelt op dat zijn carrière eerder was dan die van 50 Cent.
