Levi Rigters raakt gevoelige snaar Jamal Ben Saddik met houding over eerdere gevecht met Rico Verhoeven: "I'll kill him"

Levi Rigters en Jamal Ben Saddik staan op 23 augustus tegenover elkaar in het Last Heavyweight Standing-toernooi in Rotterdam Ahoy. In aanloop naar het duel gingen de zwaargewichten tijdens een gezamenlijke ‘Crossfire’-sessie met Remy Bonjasky met elkaar in gesprek, waarin Ben Saddik de toon zette met harde woorden en Rigters onbewogen reageert.

Ben Saddik richt zich rechtstreeks tot zijn tegenstander: “I want you to listen very carefully, because I’m ready to give everything,” zei hij. “I’m ready to die inside the ring. … I come to crush you. Round after round, I will come after you … till your last breath.”

Rigters reageert kort en kalm: “Yeah, that’s why I’m training so hard. That’s the style I like.”

Later in het gesprek verschuift de focus naar hun eerdere partijen tegen Rico Verhoeven. Op de vraag van Bonjasky hoe hij Rigters’ gevecht tegen Verhoeven beoordeeld, antwoordt Ben Saddik: “He got the chances to finish him and he didn’t. And he won’t get these chances against me because I’m not him. I will not give him that space to make points. Second after second, I will come after him till his last breath. And there is only the referee who can help him that time.”

Als Bonjasky dezelfde vraag aan Rigters stelt, houdt hij het nuchter: “I think it’s a bit the same, right? He dropped him and he didn’t finish it and I dropped him and I didn’t finish. So it would be the same.”

Die vergelijking schiet bij Ben Saddik in het verkeerde keelgat. “I took that fight in two weeks notice to fight against him,” legt hij geïrriteerd uit. “I really gave him a hard fight … such a hard fight that he and his team … avoid me to fight against him another time. That’s why he didn’t choose me to fight him. … Because when I fight him, I bring power inside that ring and I will kill him if I meet him again.”
