J. Cole was het zat om over zichzelf te rappen na 2014 Forest Hill Drive

J. Cole staat erom bekend om zeer persoonlijke verhalen, maar er was echter een moment in zijn carrière dat hij daar helemaal klaar mee was. Cole stond onlangs op het podium met NFL-ster Marshawn Lynch en Black Panther regisseur Ryan Coogler in Harlem voor het MLK Now Panel.

Tijdens zijn moment ging hij op een paar diepe onderwerpen in, waaronder het punt in zijn carrière dat hij het helemaal zat was om over zichzelf te rappen: "The time, it was after the Forest Hill Drive album, at a time in my life where I was just tired of like, rapping about myself. So much of my art was storytelling from my own perspective. I'd always give you branches of someone else's perspective but so much of it was like my personal journey, my personal growth, my personal flaws, this, that and the third.
