Oud-kickbokser Alistair Overeem in opspraak na heftige uitspraken over zijn dochter

Alistair Overeem is in opspraak geraakt na opmerkingen over zijn oudste dochter, Storm Overeem. Volgens hem zou zijn ‘gebrainwashed’ door de ‘woke’ agenda van extreem links.
De oud kickbokser kwam tot deze conclusie nadat zijn dochter aan hem had laten weten dat ze zichzelf niet meer als vrouw identificeert, maar als man. In de JAXXON podcast legt Overeem aan de podcast hosts de situatie met zijn dochter uit en waarom hij denkt dat ze ‘gebrainwashed’ is.
“There is a problem with the oldest (Storm) though, she thinks she is my son”, vertelt Overeem. “She is all into this woke nonsense. If it was not sad, it would be funny actually. So why? Addicted to her phone, she is being brainwashed basically, six-seven-eight hours a day, (with ideas like) how you feel you are, you can be what you want to be. This extremist left.”

Het is duidelijk dat Overeem het moeilijk heeft met de transitie die zijn dochter gemaakt heeft, maar houdt hij zichzelf ook een spiegel voor. “Patience, compassion, learning in that department, but I’m not going to call her a he. That’s just not (in me). I’m not going to go into this, I just don’t believe that.”
Verder in de podcast legt hij ook uit dat hij de oplossing heeft voor veel mensen die zich verliezen in deze samenleving. “Reclaiming your power. What we need to do, and that’s a little bit my next chapter, is we need to put the phone away for a month”, legt Overeem uit. “I did that actually, because of my daughter, I found it. So, my daughter’s depressed and I’m looking at the situation, there’s no drugs, there’s no strange people, there’s no wrong friends, there’s no friends at all, so that’s a problem itself so what is going on? Parents good, mother remarried, two brothers… it must be the screen,” concludeert hij.
Ondanks de oud kickbokser het niet eens is met de keuze die zijn dochter heeft gemaakt, laat hij ook weten dat hij er in alles zal steunen waar nodig.
Op sociale media kan Overeem op steun rekenen, maar ook heel veel kritiek. "Being a parent of a child going through a transition must be heartbreaking and incredibly difficult. That said, I hope that someday he can come to terms with it and apologize to his child for these comments. At the very least, he should be keeping these thoughts out of the public realm, for the sake of his child", reageert MMA nieuwsjournalist Amy Kaplan op het bericht.
