Na het succes van de Koreaanse serie Squid Game besloot Netflix een realityshow te ontwikkelen gebaseerd op de show. De opnames zijn inmiddels begonnen, maar volgens The Sun is dat niet helemaal goed gegaan. Er zou een kleine groep mensen zijn die onmiddellijk medische aandacht nodig hadden.
In de show worden spellen uit de originele serie nagespeeld met 456 mensen die strijden voor 4,56 miljoen dollar prijzengeld. De opnames in het Verenigd Koninkrijk waren in de vrieskou en volgens The Sun waren de deelnemers midden in het beruchte spel "Red Light, Green Light" toen het fout ging. Één van de spelers sprak met het blad: "Even if hypothermia kicked in then people were willing to stay for as long as possible because a lot of money was on the line. Too many were determined not to move so they stood there for far too long." Daarna gingen ze verder: "There were people arriving thinking they were going to be millionaires but they left in tears. It was like a warzone. People were getting carried out by medics but we couldn’t say anything. If you talk then you’re out. Some people couldn’t move their feet because it was so cold."
Netflix heeft inmiddels ook gereageerd en ontkent de berichten in een statement: "While it was very cold on set – and participants were prepared for that – any claims of serious injury are untrue. We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures."
